Limited Masterworks 2021 Boy with Thorn, Bisque

Order No.: 999984-70769-1
28x20 cm, 4200 g
Christian Gottfried Jüchtzer modeled the figure "thorn extractor" in 1798 after a cast of the Roman original from the Mengs cast collection in Dresden. Anton Raphael Mengs (1728-1779) had amassed an extensive collection of ancient Roman sculptures from his stays in Italy. Jüchtzer's studies of ancient sculptures made him a master of their copies in bisque porcelain, which were extremely popular during the classicist period. The surface of this twice-fired and unglazed MEISSEN porcelain depicted in the figure "Thorn Extractor, Biscuit" resembles marble or alabaster, from which ancient statues were carved. As a limited masterpiece, the 28 cm high "Thorn Extractor, Biscuit" shows a rarity from the archive, which could be revived by MEISSEN's outstanding artistry.
