The background of the "Beethoven" wall painting shows the score of the famous Moonshine Sonata in gilt. The contrast between the stave lines and his feverishly hand-written notes indicates just how much of a struggle the act of composing was to this musical genius, due in part to his increasingly poor sense of hearing. The centre of the wall painting takes the form of a portrait of the great man with his unruly hair and familiar, slightly deranged facial expression.
