The Japanese lily with its bold shades of pink and raspberry takes centre-stage in this motif. Its opened-up flower-head has an almost abstract effect. The lilies, iris and magnolia depicted celebrate the diversity of the Meissen colour palette and are additionally set off with small areas of gilding. A restrained, clean-lined shape modelled by Emil Paul Börner in 1927 serves as the perfect stage for the flowers. Porcelain painter Steffen Mikosch has now transplanted Börner's subtle patterns and colour moods into the recognisably forceful painting idiom of "Giant Bloom".
