The "Majumas" created by MEISSEN® master-class pupils Max Hagstotz, Judith Lehnert and Maria Walther - spirits in finest porcelain celebrating the endless cycle of Nature - seem to be dancing. Their abstract styling, designed by these new-generation artists to appeal to the beholder's imagination, are in the tradition of the harlequin figurines produced by their tutor and Head of the Meissen modelling department Jörg Danielczyk, who in recent times has rejigged an ancient Manufactory theme from the days of Johann Friedrich Eberlein (1695-1745) and Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775) for modern consumption. The method of paring the representational down to its diagrammatic rudiments adopted by both Danielczyk and his students recalls the cubism espoused by the artistic avant-garde in the early 20th century. It enables the beholder to fit the various planes together into an overall image of a figure in their mind as a function of their viewing angle. The virtually figurative fashioning of heads - adorned now with flowers, now with a feathered crest - contrasts alluringly with the abstract quality of the figures' proportions. Meissen porcelain painter Christina Eichler intersperses coloured motifs to vibrantly underscore the sculptures' sense of motion. It is as if they had transcended the material's inertia – a truly magisterial feat by these new-generation Meissen artists!
