The Can is a shell for nutmeg and is part of Johann Joachim Kaendler's splendid "Swan Service". With over 2200 parts, the "Swan Service" is a milestone of the German Baroque in its extravagant splendour. He has repeatedly and imaginatively overcome the practicality of the forms with organic, figurative compositions. He played with sea motifs such as shells, oyster shells, swans and figures of Greek mythology - the overarching theme that combines the many artistic individual parts into a great service.
