Limited Masterworks 2020 Covered pâte-sur-pâte vase with "Summer Frolics"

Order No.: 892884-59M03-1
31x14 cm, 1030 g
The shape of the "Sommerreigen" vase was created between 1775 and 1780. Its motif is decorated in elaborate "pâte-sur-pâte" painting, a special craft from the second half of the 19th century. As part of the Meissen Masterpieces 2020, a limited edition presents an enchanting and extremely rare style: liquid porcelain is hand-painted in up to 30 wafer-thin layers - a technique that requires dexterity and experience. The artists at the Meissen manufactory are among the few painters in the world who still master this difficult and elaborate craft today. The fine relief of wafer-thin layers of white porcelain on a hand-painted background in delicate rosewood lends the motifs of this limited edition vase artistic plasticity. Masterfully sculpted snakes coil as the handle forms, dense wreaths of leaves line the lid and base of the vase, discreetly hand-painted with a gold rim. This limited-edition work of art combines traditional craftsmanship with delicate aesthetics, in keeping with the highest standards of the Meissen promise of quality.
