The magnificent, hand-painted "Northumberland Service" from 1748 is one of the most visually stunning in the history of the manufactory. Each of the 129 limited edition pieces is decorated with its own animal, hand-painted on porcelain based on historical engravings and woodcuts - originally conceived as a gift for Sir Charles Hanbury Williams. For this limited edition reissue of this historic decoration, the painting is effectively staged on the expansive white surface of a bowl from the first half of the 18th century. The dromedary was selected as the motif based on historical original artwork from the Meissen archives and, as with the original service, is framed by a wreath of intricately hand-painted flowers. Real gold borders along the bowl as well as overlays on the lid and knob of the goblets in this collection of works of art frame the painting in representative splendor. Each individual piece of the "Northumberland Service" has already delighted representatives of royal houses. Thus, this bowl is a true work of art and limited availability in the highest Meissen quality.
