Floral decoration at Meissen has spawned several genres since the Baroque. A "naturalistic" type of painting on porcelain came to the fore in the 19th century that portrays flowers in their infinite, richly varied natural state. A further stylistic subgroup evolved within this artistic approach that was greatly influenced by the Impressionist movement. Its leading practitioner was one Julius Eduard Braunsdorf, whose decorative schemes have gone down in the Manufactory annals as "Braunsdorf Flower Painting". The oleander's richly nuanced rendition in countless composite colours is directly attributable to the infinite variety of the Meissen palette.
